Last Thursday I wrote in my planner to sculpt body

Last Thursday I wrote in my planner to sculpt body facial features. This Thursday I sculpted a one pound version of my very prominent nose, the very nose I have been given the blues about so much of my life. I feel an essay on self image, beauty, and Black features is itching to come out of this.

I added some amazing pieces to build my earring stacks from @peaceimagesjewelry. These are even more beautiful than seeing them online. She has such a skilled eye and hand.

I'm in a bookmark making mood. This time I've made some magnetic bookmarks honoring some of the precious Black women who brought me through and kept me during my grad school days until now. The world builders, the story keepers, and the truth tellers.

For the past couple of weeks I've been really excited about developing some new (non patch) items for my shop. One (or rather one group) has been bookmarks reimagined as book spines of classic Black women novels. I spent a lot of time designing and testing them to make sure they venerated these beautiful and timeless works well. You should see them in person! They are available now.

I'm experimenting with texture, color, and fabric and wanted to test some wings that I sketched. I love how light and feathery these have turned out.

I’m updating my portfolio. So I’m finally adding this fiber art piece that got rejected by a museum showcase. Regardless of the outcome, I’m still really proud of the effort I put into this

I made this stamp circa 2020 and thought it would pair well with these patches I just had for a project I'm working on. I love how, regardless of medium, my art is always in concert with each other.

Dr. Cynthia B. Dillard's methodology of surrender

Dr. Cynthia B. Dillard's methodology of surrender is essentially the driving force that powered through my dissertation, and for that I'm grateful. I pondered over what it meant to surrender for months as I watched it come alive between the pages of my dissertation and in my life.

I just ordered her book The Spirit of Our Work: Black Women Teachers (Re)Member secondhand. Much to my surprise it's signed by her! And it was under $10. I feel so grateful.

I just finished another mini journal. I started writing in these little journals as a brain dump a few years ago, and it quickly turned into a daily practice. It's evolved much since then, and I'm glad to look back on how I've evolved with it. On to the next one.

I started reading this book at a time when I wasn't ready, so my circumstances rejected it. I don't think I was yet at that point of healing that this required. I reacquainted with this book about a week ago when my spirit; psyche; and circumstance were ready, and it has been the most healing. I've been using it to journal my morning pages.
